ABOUT ENCAUSTIC MONOTYPES:
My encaustic monotypes are created by applying beeswax-based paint to a heated plate. The image is then transferred to paper. I spend a great deal of time working the plate with colors, both transparent and opaque, to produce a palette and composition that pleases me. I then mount the paper monotype to a solid substrate—either birch board or multi-media board. I coat it with clear encaustic medium to protect the paper and add a luminous finish.
The ”Backyard Palette Series” represents the pleasure I take from nature and the seasonal colors of the garden, woods, and sky. This grouping is inspired by the serene, meditative neutrals of a Southern winter. They will be mounted on archival multi-media board ready for framing.
